What is Physical Activity?
Definition: Physical activity is defined as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that requires energy expenditure (World Health Organisation:2018)
So….. being physically active doesn’t mean just playing sports, it is anything that involves moving and can be a range of activity from dancing in the kitchen to going for a walk.
The recommended levels of Physical Activity vary by age but for an adult this is 150 minutes of moderate activity per week, which can be broken down into 10 minutes slots. Here are some examples:
